WR Xavier Worthy of Texas ran a 4.21-second 40-yard dash on his second try on Saturday night, beating Ross’s record of 4.22 seconds from 2017.
Xavier Worthy, a wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns, is the fastest person the NFL training combine has ever seen.
Worthy ran his first 40-yard dash in Indianapolis and won in 4.25 seconds, which was a great time. The moving sprint got a lot of cheers from the crowd at Lucas Oil Stadium. Unofficially, it beat Clemson CB Nate Wiggins‘ time of 4.28 seconds on Friday to become the best time of the 2024 event.
Ross had the record, but Worthy was not done. He wanted to beat it. Worthy, who is 5 feet 11 1/4 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds, ran a 4.22-second unofficial time on his second try, which made the crowd go crazy. Soon after, the official time came through: 4.21, which beat the old record. Worthy also had the fastest 10-yard split this year, at 1.49 seconds.
With such fast times at this year’s event, Worthy is in a whole new league. Besides Worthy and Wiggins, no one else who has been to the 2024 combine has run faster than 4.33 seconds. On Sunday, only the offensive tackles and specialists will be able to do the event.
Worthy’s 40 was the best score of a great day of tests. Early Saturday morning, the former Longhorns star jumped 41 inches and jumped 10 feet, 11 inches for the broad jump. Worthy skipped the positional tasks after setting a record in the dash, but his performance is still good enough to be in the running for one of the best-combined workouts ever.
