Colorado is going to get its biggest snowstorm of the season. The Denver metro area is going to get over a foot of snow.

On Tuesday night in Utah, snow will start to fall. By Wednesday morning, it will have spread to Arizona, southern Wyoming, and Colorado, covering a wide area with 6 to 12 inches of snow.

How much snow will Denver get?

Six to twelve inches of snow are expected to fall in Denver. The slopes west of downtown and the Palmer Divide south of the city are expected to get the most. There is a winter storm warning for the area from Wednesday at noon until Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

12 to 18 inches of snow could fall in the area, making it hard to get around. Travelers should keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their cars in case they need them.

In places where a foot or more of snow falls, the heavy, wet snow could knock out power and bring down trees. The weather may also have an impact on Denver International Airport. On Wednesday and Thursday, flights may be canceled or delayed.

During the warm and windy season, there will be several times when storms are likely to happen. Tonight is the first of these times. Hail has been reported from groups of severe storms that are due to hit the area near Kansas City.

More showers and thunderstorms could happen further south into Southeast Kansas. This could hurt parts of the Ozarks. By morning, there will be no more chance of storms, and a band of clouds is likely to move south into southern Missouri.

The winds will be light, and it will get as hot as 80° in the afternoon, which is a new high. As the warm front moves north across Central Missouri, showers and thunderstorms will become more likely. By Thursday morning, a cold front will be moving to the northwest. The Ozarks will be covered in warm, muggy air. Storms will happen in groups on Thursday afternoon and evening, and some of them will be very bad.

Behind the front on Friday, cooler weather will move in. Clouds will likely move along and north of I-44. With highs in the 50s, the weather will stay cool. The weather will get better on Saturday, with sun and clouds and highs in the low to mid-60s in the afternoon.
