Sam Kerr, a striker for Chelsea, enters a not-guilty plea to an offense made more serious by race.

Sam Kerr, a former striker for Chelsea and captain of the Matildas, is scheduled to go on trial for harassing a London police officer in a racist manner.

During a court appearance, Kerr entered a not-guilty plea. He is due to appear in Wimbledon Magistrates Court on February 1, 2025. The allegation is related to an event that happened in January 2023, when a police officer was called to investigate a taxi fare complaint.

In a plea and trial preparation hearing, Kerr rejected the charge. Before suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Kerr had scored 99 goals in 128 games since joining Chelsea in 2019. James Johnson, the CEO of Football Australia, stated that the federation was aware of the “very serious allegations” and would uphold her legal rights.

Coach Tony Gustavsson of Kerr was “surprised” by the accusations, but he was unable to elaborate. Kerr has won the Women’s Community Shield, three FA Cups, two Women’s League Cups, and four WSL crowns while playing for Chelsea.
